George Mazin
George Mazin is an independent consultant and legal advisor providing compliance advice, expert witness services and director services to fund managers and law firms.
Mr Mazin retired from the full-time practice of law at the end of 2019. For the entirety of his legal career, Mr Mazin practiced corporate law in New York or New Jersey, and continues to be a member of the Bar in good standing in each of these states. Mr. Mazin’s practice was focused on a broad range of matters in the representation of private investment funds and investment advisers, as well as other financial services firms.
From 2002 to 2019, Mr. Mazin was a partner at Dechert LLP (“Dechert”), where he served until his recent retirement in a leadership capacity in the firm’s financial services and investment management practice group. He also served on Dechert’s overall policy committee. Dechert is an international law firm with a wide-ranging financial services and investment management practice that serves clients in the United States and worldwide. Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Mazin practiced at Lowenstein Sandler LLP for twenty-one years.
As a core part of his practice, Mr. Mazin was regularly engaged by investment advisers to advice on corporate governance matters, as well as the development and drafting of compliance policies and procedures. Throughout his career, Mr. Mazin was involved in the preparation of organizational and offering documents in connection with numerous private fund offerings.
Mr. Mazin received his JD degree from Rutgers University Law School in 1981. He previously served as a member of a number of industry boards and committees, including chairmanship of the Private Funds Committee of the Bar of the City of New York and membership on the Managed Funds Association Lawyers Advisory Committee (including on the steering committee thereof). Mr. Mazin has spoken and authored articles on various topics relating to the private investment fund and asset management industry, and his work has yielded recognition by a number of industry groups, including, among others, recommendation as a “leading lawyer” for investment funds by Chambers USA, recommendation by the Legal 500 (US), inclusion in the Practical Law Company’s Which Lawyer Guide, and inclusion as a “leading lawyer” in the category of U.S. investment funds by the IFLR1000.
